The Power of Small Spaces: Bathrooms That Make a Statement

Bathrooms are often some of the smallest spaces in a home, but they offer some of the biggest opportunities for personality, creativity, and impact. In this recently completed residence, each bathroom was approached as its own design moment and tailored to its user while still contributing to a cohesive story throughout the home.

Upstairs, three kids’ bathrooms each carry a distinct identity, balancing durability with playful sophistication.

The first bathroom embraces a crisp, fresh palette. A blue shower wall tile sets the tone, bringing a sense of calm and color without overwhelming the space. Paired with a clean white floor tile and a light-painted vanity, the result is bright, airy, and a little bit fun.

In the second bathroom, texture takes center stage. A basket weave tiled floor introduces a sense of craftsmanship underfoot, while the shower walls are wrapped in a zellige-inspired square tile. The slight variation and sheen of the tile add depth and character, creating a space that feels both grounded and elevated.

The third kids’ bathroom leans more contemporary, with white tiles in modern shapes and patterns applied across both the walls and floor. This layered approach to pattern keeps the monochromatic palette visually engaging. Anchoring the space is a stained wood vanity, which brings warmth and contrast.

While each upstairs bathroom has its own voice, the main floor half bath is undeniably the jewel of the home. This space was designed to make an impression. Wrapped in a rich brown limewash, the walls have a depth and texture that shift beautifully with the light, creating a moody, immersive experience.

A bold marble wall-mounted sink acts as a sculptural focal point. It is both functional and artistic, which is the ultimate win-win for us. Carefully selected accent lighting enhances the drama, casting a warm glow that highlights the texture of the walls and the veining of the stone.

The result is a half bath that feels undeniably luxurious and maybe more importantly, memorable. It’s a reminder that even the smallest rooms can carry the strongest design statements and that practical, everyday spaces can also be quite expressive.
