This house was built in 1892 by Dr. R.I. Peak, president of First National Bank and sold in the 1900s to George W. Hamilton, president of Crown Cotton Mills. Thanks to the efforts of longtime owners Jim and Trisha Bethel, a lot of the original architectural features including the mantels and tile work for the four downstairs fireplaces have been restored.

When you walk through the front door, the first thing you will notice is the crystal chandelier and a stand up piano painted a mint green color. The first room to your left, historically a writing room, is now our kids’ playroom and features an impressive christmas tree collection on top of the entertainment cabinet filled with games and puzzles. And to the right, the room listed in an old newspaper article as the library, is being used as my home office complete with an executive desk right in the middle. Before walking into the dining room hall, you will see the grand staircase with garland on the railing and a decorated side hall leading to the portico outside.

The dining room features a large hutch with a portion of my husband’s grandmother’s pottery collection and an oval dining table set for the fanciest of Christmas dinners. This table was in my house growing up in our formal dining room that we rarely ever used. My family actually eats at this table every night now, but it certainly does not look like this every night. To the left is our living room with the cozy couches and the tallest of our Christmas trees and our five stockings hanging on the mantle.

Through one more doorway, you will see a half bath on your left and the narrow back stair on your right before entering the kitchen and finally the breakfast room. The breakfast room is our most used and often most cluttered room, but for today it is picked up and the table is set with our fun Christmas dishes. Another tree featuring all of our favorite ornaments from trips we’ve taken and from craft time at school stands here in front of the bay window.
